SIAC Football Dominates NCAA Super Region Two Rankings, Claims Four of Top Five Spots

The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) continues to make its presence felt in NCAA Division II football.

For the third consecutive week, the SIAC holds the top three positions in Super Region Two, according to the latest NCAA Division II Football NCAA Power Index (NPI) rankings released Sunday, November 1.

Kentucky State remains at the top of the region, while Central State made one of the biggest moves in this week’s rankings, climbing three positions to No. 2. Benedict maintained its No. 3 ranking, and Edward Waters moved into the No. 5 position.

The latest rankings give the SIAC four of the top five teams in Super Region Two, further highlighting the conference’s strength as the NCAA Division II postseason approaches.

SIAC’s Regional Power Continues to Grow

Kentucky State’s continued hold on the No. 1 position reinforces the Thorobreds’ standing as one of Division II’s leading programs. Central State’s three-position jump is another significant development, placing the Marauders directly behind Kentucky State and ahead of several established regional contenders.

Benedict’s consistency also deserves attention. The Tigers have remained among the region’s top three teams throughout the first three weekly ranking releases.

Edward Waters’ presence at No. 5 gives the SIAC four teams inside the regional top five, an impressive accomplishment as programs begin positioning themselves for NCAA postseason consideration.

The conference’s latest showing builds on its strong opening to the NPI era. The SIAC occupied all three top positions in the inaugural October 18 rankings and maintained its regional presence in the October 25 update.

What the Rankings Mean

The 2026 season marks the introduction of the NCAA Power Index for Division II football, replacing the traditional regional ranking process.

The system evaluates teams based on game results and strength of schedule and helps determine NCAA Division II championship selection and postseason positioning.

The NCAA plans to update the rankings each Sunday through the regular season, leading to the Division II Football Selection Show on November 15.

With the regular season approaching its conclusion, every remaining game carries added importance for teams pursuing postseason opportunities.

Four of the top five in Super Region Two belong to the SIAC. That’s a statement from HBCU football.
