MEAC Announces Basketballers of the Week

Delaware State guard Martaz Robinson was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola. Delaware State guard Deywilk Tavarez was named Rookie of the Week, while Morgan State forward Allen Udemadu earned Defensive Player of the Week honors, respectively. 

Robinson (G, 6-2, 180, Baltimore, Md.) averaged 21.0 points, 7.3 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 2.0 steals while helping the Hornets to a 2-1 record. He tallied 23 points and eight rebounds with four assists, two steals and a block in the win over Gwynedd Mercy. Robinson followed with 17 points, nine rebounds, five assists and two steals against the University of Virginia-Lynchburg. He rounded out the week with another 20-point performance against Longwood, scoring 22 points with five rebounds, seven assists and two steals. He shot 50 percent from the field and 85.7 percent from the charity stripe. 

Udemadu (F, 6-10, 235, Lagos, Nigeria) averaged a double-double with 10.5 points and 11.5 rebounds to help the Bears finish the week with a 2-0 record. Against UMBC, Udemadu grabbed 12 rebounds along with 10 points. He pulled down 11 boards and registered 11 points with two assists, in a win over the University of Virginia-Lynchburg. 

Tavarez (G, 6-2, 165, Pennsauken, N.J.) helped his Hornets to a 2-1 record with victories over Gwynedd Mercy and the University of Virginia-Lynchburg. He recorded 20 points, along with five rebounds, seven assists, and four steals against the University of Virginia-Lynchburg. In the 62-61 loss to Longwood, Tavarez contributed 11 points, four rebounds, three assists, and four steals. Throughout the week he connected on 50.0percent of his shots from the field (16-of-32) and 50.0 percent (6-of-12) from three-point range. 

Other Top Performers 

Trent Edwards (Morgan State) put up 18 points and 11 rebounds with three blocks against the University of Virginia-Lynchburg while averaging 9.0 points and 7.0 rebounds for the Bears. 

Preist Ryan (Coppin State) scored 18 points with five rebounds and three assists in the Eagles 62-59 loss to Wagner. Ryan averaged 9.0 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 0.5 steals, and 0.5 blocks through two games for CSU. 

Jevin Muniz (Delaware State) averaged 12.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 4.7 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.3 blocks for the Hornets. 

Jamarii Thomas (Norfolk State) led the Spartans with 31 points, along with six rebounds, four assists, three steals, and one block on the road at Illinois State.  

Josh Smith (N.C. Central) averaged 14.5 points and 3.5 rebounds for N.C. Central who played in pair of road games at UVA and Radford. 

Justin Winston (Coppin State) averaged 15.0 points and 5.5 rebounds in a pair of games for the Eagles last week. 

Troy Hupstead (Maryland Eastern Shore) recorded 22 points and 10 rebounds, with two assists and two steals against N.C. State.
