Edward Waters turns attention to the NCAA playoffs
Edward Waters has a different objective entering Saturday.
The Tigers are no longer in contention for the SIAC championship game following their 35-28 loss to Central State. However, their NCAA Division II postseason hopes remain very much alive.
Edward Waters enters the weekend ranked No. 5 in Super Region Two and No. 20 nationally in the NCAA Power Index (NPI). A victory over Allen would give the Tigers a 7-3 overall record and strengthen their postseason résumé.
The SIAC’s national standing is particularly impressive. Four conference programs occupy four of the top five positions in Super Region Two:
Program Super Region Two ranking
- Kentucky State No. 1
- Central State No. 2
- Benedict No. 3
- Edward Waters No. 5
The Golden Tigers remain mathematically alive in the championship race, but they need help from the teams ahead of them. Their matchup against Miles carries additional importance as they attempt to close the regular season with another victory.
One important postseason distinction: Tuskegee is not eligible for the NCAA Division II playoffs because of its scheduled Turkey Day Classic against Alabama State on November 26. However, the Golden Tigers remain eligible for the SIAC championship game.

With Benedict, Kentucky State and Central State tied at 6-1, and Tuskegee still hoping for an opportunity, Saturday’s results will determine how the championship picture ultimately comes together.
The stakes extend beyond the conference trophy. For several SIAC programs, the final weekend represents an opportunity to strengthen their NCAA Division II postseason credentials and keep the conference represented on the national stage.
Saturday is more than the regular-season finale. It’s championship Saturday for the SIAC.
