MEAC announces Week 6 Basketballers of the Week

Howard senior Marcus Dockery was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola. Howard’s guard Blake Harper was named Rookie of the Week, while South Carolina State forward Drayton Jones earned Defensive Player of the Week honors, respectively.

Marcus Dockery (G, 6-2, 170, Sr., Washington, D.C.) 

The Maryland transfer averaged 28.0 points, 6.0 assists and 4.5 rebounds in a 2-0 week for Howard. He collected a career-high 29 points in the win against Virginia-Lynchburg with seven rebounds, five assists and one steal. In the Bison win over UNC Wilmington, Dockery added 27 points with a career-high seven assists and two rebounds. Dockery shot 64.7 percent from three-point range (11-of-17) and was perfect from the free throw line (7-of-7).

Blake Harper (G, 6-5, Fr., Washington, D.C.) 

The true freshman registered a triple-double with 30 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists in the Bison’s 124-50 win over Virginia-Lynchburg. He followed with 18 points, seven rebounds, four assists and one steal in the win against UNC Wilmington. Harper shot 58.3 percent (7-of-12) from three-point range and went 11-of-15 at the free throw line (73.3 percent).

Drayton Jones (F, 6-11, 245, So., Houston, Texas)

Jones averaged 24.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 3.5 blocks in a 1-1 week for the Bulldogs. He recorded a 34-point, eight rebound performance in the win over Charleston Southern adding four assists, six blocks and two steals. In the 68-64 decision to Furman, Jones added 15 points, three rebounds, one block and one steal while shooting 77.8 percent from the charity stripe (7-of-9).

Other Top Performers

  • Robert Smith (DSU) collected 27 points, six rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal in a 71-59 win over NJIT.
  • Caleb Surgers (DSU) recorded nine rebounds with three points, one assist and one block against NJIT.
  • Isaac Parson (NCCU) registered 16 points in the loss at West Virginia with three rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal.
  • Keishon Porter (NCCU) led the Eagles with 20 points, three rebounds, three steals and two assists in the 77-70 victory over Longwood.
