MEAC announces weekly Volleyball honorees

Howard sophomore Angel Riggins has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week. Lashea Morlu of South Carolina State was named Rookie of the Week, while Delaware State’s Kristin White was named the Pitcher of the Week.  
 
Riggins (So., UTL, San Diego, Calif.) batted .500 for the week with five hits in 10 at-bats while adding five runs scored and four RBIs. Riggins recorded two doubles in the 3-1 week for the Bison who swept the series against N.C. Central. She added nine putouts in the Bison infield. 

Morlu (Fr., OF/P, Hendersonville, N.C.) registered three hits in eight at-bats with two runs scored, five RBIs and one stolen base. She also added four putouts from the outfield. 

White (So., P, Crofton, Md.) threw 12.0 innings going 2-0 in the circle with a 0.583 ERA. White allowed just one earned run on seven hits with an impressive 18 strikeouts in 53 batters faced. She threw a complete game, one-run victory in the opening game of the series versus Morgan State during which she fanned 12 batters, a career-high. White completed the weekend putting in five innings of work giving up four runs, one earned, while striking out another six batters in the 7-6 win.  

Other Top Performers  

  • Emily Quintero (Coppin State) recorded a .364 batting average in a 2-1 week for CSU with four hits in 11 at-bats with three RBI, two runs scored and two doubles. She added four innings of work in the circle giving up one earned run on five hits with two strikeouts.  
  • Tatjana Harris (Coppin State) threw 9.0 innings giving up three earned runs on 11 hits for a 0.778 ERA with two strikeouts. 
  • Zaelyn Harding (Delaware State) went 4-of-8 at the plate with one run scored. 
  • Julia Holt (Howard) recorded 12 strikeouts in 27.1 innings pitched while allowing six earned runs on 15 hits for a 2.47 ERA. 
  • Lauryn Jones (Howard) tallied four hits in 12 at-bats, driving in one RBI while scoring four times with one stolen base and four putouts. 
  • Paige Perkins (Maryland Eastern Shore) registered a .556 batting average going 5-of-9 at the plate with two RBI, two runs scored, two doubles and one homerun.  
  • Tyla Dickerson (Maryland Eastern Shore) collected four hits in 10 at-bats with four RBI and three putouts.  
  • Emily Gunther (Maryland Eastern Shore) struck out one of five batters faced in on inning of work while recording a save in the 3-2 win against Coppin State. 
  • Brierra Tyler (Norfolk State) threw 4.0 innings striking out seven batters with five walks and four hits in a 2-1 weekend for the Spartans. 
  • Qween Olivia Edmonds (Norfolk State) went 4-of-9 at the plate with three runs, two RBI, two stolen bases and three putouts. 
  • Amaya McPherson (Norfolk State) threw 10.1 innings giving up seven earned runs on 11 hits with three strikeouts and four batters walked. She also went 2-of-5 at the plate with one run and two RBI.  
  • Tyler Suttles (N.C. Central) registered five hits in 10 at-bats with two RBI and one triple. 
  • Jaden Davis (N.C. Central) threw 28.1 innings for the Eagles giving up 24 runs, 14 earned, on 27 hits while walking 10 and striking out 18 batters of 124 faced. 
  • Daiyah Bailey (N.C. Central) tallied nine hits in 25 at-bats driving in four RBI and scoring four runs with one double and three stolen bases.  
  • Jamaria Charley (S.C. State) collected two hits in 17 at-bats with two RBI, four runs scored, one triple, three walks and five stolen bases for the Bulldogs.
