Coppin State forward Laila Lawrence was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola. Fellow Eagle Mickelle Lowry was named Rookie of the Week, while Norfolk States’s forward Kierra Wheeler earned Defensive Player of the Week honors, respectively.
Lawrence (F, 6-2, Sr., Lewisville, Texas) posted a career-high 31 points, along with 11 rebounds for a double-double in the win over Delaware State. She added three assists and three steals while shooting 11-of-20 from the field and 9-of-13 from the free throw line.
Lowry (G, 5-6, Fr., Baltimore, Md.) recorded career highs with 11 points and six rebounds in the win over Delaware State. The rookie shot 50 percent from the field (4-of-8) and 75 percent (3-of-4) from beyond the three-point arch.
Wheeler (F, 6-1, Sr., Minneapolis, Minn.) finished with 19 points, 16 rebounds, four steals, four blocks and two assists.in the 83-37 win over S.C. State. Ten of Wheeler’s 16 rebounds came on the defensive end. Wheeler shot 75 percent (6-of-8) from the field and 86 percent (6-of-7) from the free throw line.
Other Top Performers
- Ericka Huggins (DSU) finished with 13 points and seven rebounds, shooting 4-of-5 from the field and 3-of-4 from beyond the arch.
- Nala Abraham (DSU) contributed 12 points and four rebounds in 13 minutes against Coppin State.
- Mahogany Lester (UMES) recorded 17 points and added four rebounds in the win over Morgan State.
- Brianna Barnes (UMES) registered 16 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals in the win over Morgan State.
- Michaela Bogans (MSU) totaled nine points, three rebounds, three steals and two assists in the loss to UMES.
- Naya Ojukwu (MSU) pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds, six of which were defensive. Ojukwu also recorded a game-high three blocks while adding 13 points and two steals in the loss to UMES.
