Mississippi Valley State has added a recognizable name to its football program, landing wide receiver Mekhi Penix, the younger brother of Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr.
The 6-foot-4, 220-pound receiver announced his commitment to the Delta Devils on social media after spending the 2025 season at Independence Community College. He appeared in 8 games for Independence Community College in 2025. He recorded 17 receptions for 234 yards and 2 touchdowns in those eight appearances.
Mekhi now heads to Itta Bena looking to continue his collegiate career at the FCS level.
While his older brother has become one of football’s most recognizable quarterbacks, Mekhi brings a different skill set as a big-bodied receiver with the size to make plays on the perimeter. His addition gives Mississippi Valley State another intriguing target as the program continues to build its roster for the upcoming season.
Michael Penix Jr. starred at Indiana and Washington before being selected in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons. Now, another member of the Penix family will be looking to make his own name in college football.
Mississippi Valley State continues to add talent through the transfer portal, with Mekhi Penix becoming one of the latest newcomers expected to contribute for the Delta Devils in 2026.
