Michigan star Syla Swords signs NIL deal with Nike

Michigan star guard Syla Swords has added another major achievement to her rapidly growing résumé, signing a name, image and likeness (NIL) shoe deal with Nike.

The partnership makes Swords the first basketball player to join Nike Canada’s NIL roster, marking another milestone for one of the brightest young stars in women’s college basketball.

“Nike is always at the forefront of every podium, medal and championship,” Swords said in a statement. “I cannot wait to join a family of winners and role models while I continue to write my story!”

Swords has quickly become one of the premier players in the college game. The standout guard earned First Team All-Big Ten honors after an impressive sophomore campaign at Michigan, where she established herself as one of the conference’s top scorers and most versatile playmakers.

Beyond her collegiate success, Swords has already gained international experience as a member of Canada’s Olympic basketball team, further elevating her profile as one of the sport’s rising stars.

The agreement continues Nike’s investment in elite collegiate athletes through NIL partnerships and further strengthens the brand’s presence in women’s basketball. For Swords, the deal represents another significant step as she builds both her on-court legacy and off-court brand.

With her combination of collegiate success, international experience, and growing marketability, Swords is widely viewed as one of the faces of the next generation of women’s basketball.
