N.C. Central’s Davius Richard selected FCS National Offensive Player of the Week

DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University junior quarterback Davius Richard has been announced as the FedEx Ground FCS National Offensive Player of the Week by Stats Perform for his performance during NCCU’s 50-21 homecoming triumph over Howard University on Saturday.

While earning MEAC offensive player of the week for the sixth time this season, Richard (6-3, 215, Belle Glade, Florida) moved the Eagles into first place with their win over the Bison. He passed for 281 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 104 yards and two touchdowns. The big performance raised him to 31 total touchdowns (20 passing, 11 rushing) during the Eagles’ 7-2 season.

Among the NCAA Division I-FCS statistical leaders, Richard ranks fourth in the nation in points responsible for, averaging 20.9 points per contest, and is 11th in the country with an average of 289.9 yards of total offense per game – both highs in the MEAC.

The leader of the seventh ranked scoring offense in the nation has amassed a conference-leading 1,996 passing yards and is the league’s third-best ground gainer with 613 rushing yards. 

Up next, NCCU visits Norfolk State on Nov. 12 at 2 p.m., with the conference championship and a trip to the Celebration Bowl on the line.
