NORFOLK, Va. – After a strong showing at the MEAC Indoor Track & Field Championships, the Norfolk State women’s track & field team has moved up to the No. 28 ranking in the nation according to this week’s NCAA Indoor Track & Field Ratings Index.

The index, released by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), uses the NCAA’s descending order list of performances throughout the season as an indicator to predict team standings at the NCAA Indoor Championships.

The Spartans were 37th in last week’s rankings before moving up to 28th this week, the highest mark in program history at the Division I level.

The Spartans’ rating is boosted by Martha Bissah’s No. 1 ranking nationally in the 800 meters, which she has held all month after running a 2:03.99 (converted to a banked-track time of 2:02.58) at the Camel City Invitational on Feb. 2. This past weekend, sophomore Kiara Grant clocked a PR of 7.22 seconds in her victory in the 60m dash at the MEAC Indoor Championships, moving her up to eighth in the national event rankings.

This week’s complete national ratings can be found here.

Accepted entries for next week’s NCAA Indoor Championships will be announced late Tuesday night and updates will be provided Wednesday at www.nsuspartans.com.
