The Prairie View A&M football team arrived in Tallahassee on Thursday as they prepare for the 2023 Pepsi Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship Football game against Florida A&M.
The game is set to be played on Saturday, Dec. 2 at Bragg Memorial Stadium in Tallahassee, Fla. at 4 p.m. EST live on ESPN2.
The Panthers clinched the Western Division Title after defeating the Alabama State Hornets on Nov. 18 leading them to a spot in the SWAC Championship. PVAMU finished with an overall record of 6-5 and they were 6-2 in the SWAC. Florida A&M enters Saturday’s contest atop of the eastern division with a 10-1 overall record and a perfect 8-0 in league play.
Saturday will be the second appearance in three years that the Panthers have played in the SWAC Championship. Earlier in the season Prairie View A&M fell to the Rattlers in a regular season game.
The Panthers last won a championship title in 2009 when they defeated Alabama A&M, 31-24. Florida A&M holds a 5-3 all-time record over PV. The first game played between the teams on the gridiron was in 1936.
The winner of the 2023 SWAC Championship Game will receive a bid to the 2023 Cricket Celebration Bowl to face the Howard Bisons, the champions of the MEAC.
