San Jose sneaker shop closes doors amid rise in robberies

Kickz, Inc. was opened seven years ago by Danny Ryan and since then the sneaker and clothing spot has not only become a location for sneaker enthusiasts to buy and sell kicks , but has also immersed itself in the local sporting community, sponsoring several teams, making the game of basketball even more accessible to scores of players from AAU to adults.

Unfortunately that has now come to an end.

There has been an uptick of retail robberies in the area and this has spurred Danny Ryan to make the difficult decision to close his store.

An announcement on Instagram reads :

Due to all the recent events going on all over the Bay Area we have decided to pull everything off shelves & fully shut down until further notice

Mr. Ryan said the decision to shutter his store was made due to the slew of recent smash-and-grabs that has debilitated business and he did not want to be next. Ryan’s concerns are well founded as the most recent of these robberies occurred at Valley Fair and Santana Row, which are down the street from Kickz, Inc.

“It’s definitely sad for me to see that stuff. I don’t wish that upon nobody. It’s definitely been very hard for me to see some of these guys dealing with that stuff.”…..“We didn’t feel like that was the smartest move for our business, our employees, our families to even put ourselves potentially in harm’s way like that,” he said. “It’s been going on everywhere and it could happen to any of us. We’ve been fortunate thus far and I think, again, it was just the smartest decision for us.”

Ryan says that Kickz Inc was was by thieves back in 2018 who stole clothing and other merchandise.

Though, at least for the time being, this spells the end of Kickz Inc’s brick-and-mortar location, the company is not going away, as Ryan is planning to move the store online.
