SIAC announces Week 1 Men’s Volleyballers of the Week

Wednesday afternoon the SIAC announced their week 1 Volleyball Players of the Week. Here are the honourees:

Week 1: Men’s Volleyball Players of the Week

ATLANTA, Ga. (February 2, 2022) – Jaxon Hicks (Fort Valley State) was named Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Inaugural Men’s Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week, while Antonio Barraza (Central State) earned Defensive Player of the Week, released by the league office on Wednesday.
 
Justin Yates (Fort Valley State) was also tabbed Setter of the Week.
 
OFFENSIVE – Jaxson Hicks, Freshman, Opposite, Fort Valley State

Hicks totaled 18 kills, 12 digs, two blocks, and an ace in last week’s Tri-Match against Belmont Abbey and Reinhardt. After collecting seven digs, three kills and a block assist versus Belmont Abbey, Hicks lined 15 kills, five digs, a service ace and a block assist versus Reinhardt.


 
DEFENSIVE – Antonio Barraza, Freshman, Middle Blocker, Central State

In CSU’s inaugural season of men’s volleyball, freshman Antonio Barraza currently leads CSU in blocks with 19 – including a season-high 5 blocks in last week’s match against Georgetown College (Ky).


 
SETTER – Justin Yates, Freshman, Setter, Fort Valley State

In two matches Saturday at Reinhardt Tri-Match, Yates totaled 42 assists, 10 digs, two kills, and two blocks. After 15 assists, two kills, two digs, and a solo block against Belmont Abbey, Justin followed with 27 assists, eight digs and a block assist against Reinhardt.
