Stephen Curry has spent his entire NBA career with the Golden State Warriors, and he wants to keep it that way.
Speaking during Warriors media day, Curry emphasized what remaining with Golden State means to him as he enters another chapter of his career.
“This is home. This is what we built. This is a community that I have played in front of my entire career, and being able to finish the story the right way is a big part of (it).”
Curry’s comments reinforce a message he has delivered repeatedly throughout his career: Golden State is not simply where he plays basketball — it is the organization and community he wants to call home when his playing career ends.
The Warriors drafted Curry No. 7 overall in the 2009 NBA Draft, and he has spent his entire career with the franchise.
He has since helped transform Golden State into one of the NBA’s defining franchises of the modern era, winning four NBA championships and two regular-season MVP awards while becoming the league’s all-time leader in made 3-pointers.
More Than a Contract
For Curry, the idea of being a Warriors “lifer” extends beyond the next contract.
He has previously described the Bay Area as his “one and only home” and has repeatedly said he wants to finish his career with Golden State.
Now, with the final chapters of his playing career approaching, Curry is putting the emphasis on the relationship between player, franchise and community.
“This is what we built,” Curry said.
That phrase may be the most important part of his latest comments.
Curry isn’t talking only about championships or individual records. He’s talking about the connection created between him, the Warriors and the fans who have watched his entire career unfold.
