TSU’s Adams and Haynes-Overton earn Conference Honors

Courtesy of Tennessee State University Athletics BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The Tennessee State women’s basketball team had two players take home yearly awards as the Ohio Valley Conference announced its 2022-23 superlative award winners on Tuesday afternoon. Gia Adams was named to the All-OVC Second Team, while Erica Haynes-Overton earned All-OVC First Team honors. Haynes-Overton was also named to the All-OVC Newcomer Team. Adams, a sophomore from Houston, Texas, showed no signs of a sophomore slump this season after being named the OVC Freshman of the Year a season ago. Tennessee State’s Gia Adams earns OVC Player of the Week Honours

The Ohio Valley Conference announced that Tennessee State sophomore guard Gia Adams was named its Player of the Week. In two games last week, against Fisk and Kansas City, the Jersey Village product averaged 23.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals in helping the Lady Tigers to a 1-1 record. This award is nothing new for Adams, as she garnered the honor three times last season. Up next for Adams and the Tigers is a trip to Chattanooga for a meeting with the Moccasins of UT Chattanooga. Tennessee State Lady Tigers picked 5th in OVC Preseason Poll, Gia Adams named to All-OVC Preseason team

Courtesy of Tennessee State Athletics BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The 2022-2023 Ohio Valley Conference women’s basketball preseason coaches poll was announced by the league on Tuesday morning, and third-year head coach Ty Evans‘s team was slotted fifth in the 10-team ranking. Sophomore guard Gia Adams was named to the All-OVC Preseason team. The Lady Tigers received 95 total points and one first-place vote in the preseason ranking that was voted on by the league’s head coaches and sports information directors.
