The Preseason Watch List for the fouth annual Aeneas Williams Award was released by the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame. Presented by the Chicksaw Nation, the Aeneas Wiliams is presented to the best defensive back among Division I HBCU institutions, based on performance on the field, athletic ability and character.  Amongst the 15 players named to the watchlist Jackson State defensive back Shemar Hawkins. The SWAC announced the dates for its 2025 Men’s and Women’s Basketball Media Day. Norfolk State’s Kevon King named to BOXTOROW HBCU Preseason All-America Team

Norfolk State running back Kevon King was named to the BOXTOROW HBCU Preseason All-America Team.  Last season was a breakout one for the Chesapeake, VA native, recording career highs in games played (11), rushing attempts (161), yards (944), and touchdowns. Courtesy of Jackson State Athletics Defending HBCU National Champion, Jackson State, had seven players named to eight positions on the 2025 HBCU college football Preseason All-America team presented by BOXTOROW on Tuesday. Florida A&M had the next most players with five, while North Carolina Central had four. JaCobian Morgan was named Preseason All-American as the quarterback after he finished last season with 2,051 yards through the air on 150-of-234 passing, finishing the season 10-1 as a starter, including 10 consecutive wins. Twelve Tennessee State athletes receive OVC Medal of Honor

A dozen Tennessee State student athletes earned the 2024-25 Ohio Valley Conference Academic Medal of Honor. Every year the Academic Medal of Honor is bestowed upon student athletes who achieve the highest GPA in a conference-sponsored sport.  The Tennis program has five recipients, with Jonasz Dziopak, Taj Hibbert, Francisca Gomez Weiss coming from the men’s team and Jovana Nikolic, and Natalie Walsh representing the women’s team.  Football players Blake Gamez, Kyle Hicks, and Connor Ruth made the list; Aden Napier, Sampo Stahl, and Trixie Sabulao come from the mens and women’s tennis ranks, respectively. Ohio Valley Conference announces 2025-26 Basketball Schedule

The Ohio Valley Conference announced its mens and women’s basketball conference schedule for the 2025-26 season.  Once more, the conference tilt features a 20-game round robin docket amongst the 11 conference members. Each team will play a pair of conference matchups before Christmas; the post-Christmas docket will resume December 30, concluding Saturday, February 28, 2026.  The 2026 Men’s and Women’s OVC Basketball Tournament will take place March 4-7 at Evansville, Indiana’s Ford Center.  Every conference game and home non-conference matchups can be seen on the ESPN family of networks, with…

Jackson State 17th in Stats Perform FCS Preseason Top 25 Poll

The Jackson State Tigers sit at no.17 in the Stats Perform FCS Preseason Top 25 rankings. JSU went 12-2, including 8-0 within the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Jackson State ended the season on a 10-game winning streak, which included winning the SWAC Championship and the HBCU national championship in the Celebration Bowl.  The Tigers ended last season ranked 18th in the polls. Norfolk State’s Ings and Darden to take part in NBPA HBCU Top 50 Camp

Norfolk State basketballers Jaylani Darden and Christian Ings will participate in the seventh annual National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) HBCU Top 50 Camp, which takes place this week at Morehouse College from July 31 through August 2.  This season, Ings posted per game averages of 12.1 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists on .489/.473/.736 shooting splits and was named to the All-MEAC Third Team.
