Norfolk State’s Kevon King named to BOXTOROW HBCU Preseason All-America Team

Norfolk State running back Kevon King was named to the BOXTOROW HBCU Preseason All-America Team.  Last season was a breakout one for the Chesapeake, VA native, recording career highs in games played (11), rushing attempts (161), yards (944), and touchdowns. Florida A&M had the next most players with five, while North Carolina Central had four. Twelve Tennessee State athletes receive OVC Medal of Honor

A dozen Tennessee State student athletes earned the 2024-25 Ohio Valley Conference Academic Medal of Honor. Every year the Academic Medal of Honor is bestowed upon student athletes who achieve the highest GPA in a conference-sponsored sport.  The Tennis program has five recipients, with Jonasz Dziopak, Taj Hibbert, Francisca Gomez Weiss coming from the men’s team and Jovana Nikolic, and Natalie Walsh representing the women’s team.  Football players Blake Gamez, Kyle Hicks, and Connor Ruth made the list; Aden Napier, Sampo Stahl, and Trixie Sabulao come from the mens and women’s tennis ranks, respectively. Ohio Valley Conference announces 2025-26 Basketball Schedule 

The Ohio Valley Conference announced its mens and women’s basketball conference schedule for the 2025-26 season.  Once more, the conference tilt features a 20-game round robin docket amongst the 11 conference members. Jackson State 17th in Stats Perform FCS Preseason Top 25 Poll

The Jackson State Tigers sit at no.17 in the Stats Perform FCS Preseason Top 25 rankings. JSU went 12-2, including 8-0 within the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Jackson State ended the season on a 10-game winning streak, which included winning the SWAC Championship and the HBCU national championship in the Celebration Bowl.  The Tigers ended last season ranked 18th in the polls. Norfolk State’s Ings and Darden to take part in NBPA HBCU Top 50 Camp

Norfolk State basketballers Jaylani Darden and Christian Ings will participate in the seventh annual National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) HBCU Top 50 Camp, which takes place this week at Morehouse College from July 31 through August 2.  This season, Ings posted per game averages of 12.1 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists on .489/.473/.736 shooting splits and was named to the All-MEAC Third Team.
