The Tennessee State University men’s basketball came up short Thursday evening, falling 77-66 to UT Martin.

Tennessee State took an early 8-0, but UT Martin answered back with 9 consecutive points to take a 9-8 lead on Jordan Sears’ fastbreak layup. TSU would briefly square things at 9 apiece on a Zion Griffin free throw. A Parker Stewart three-pointer put the Skyhawks up 12-9 and from that point , UT Martin would shows the way for the rest of the half, leading as much as 13 points at 34-21, before ultimately taking a 38-29 lead into halftime.

The Tigers spent the entirety of the second half playing uphill. They drew to as close as six points , but faced an ultimately faced a double-digit deficit for the majority of the half, falling behind by as much as 19 points , as they shot just 38.5% ( 10-26) from the floor and 25% (3-12) in the second half.

Jr. Clay led the Tigers in scoring with 21 points in a losing effort, but shot just 5-16 from the field. Adong Makuoi was the other TSU player in double figures with 8 rebounds to go along with his 13 points.

The Tigers with the loss, descend to 10-8 overall and 2-3 in the Ohio Valley Conference will look to get back track when they hit the road to face Tennessee Tech Saturday. Tip-off time is scheduled for 3:00 PM CST.
