The season has not yet started and already Tennessee State head coach Rod Reed has gotten a call about one of his players. This one is not the typical one about getting into a fist fight after over doing it on the libations or some other shenanigans that football players often get into. This is serious and potentially life-altering for multiple people.
Tennessee State quarterback Demry Croft is charged with six counts of rape and two counts of sexual assault. According to indictments, the crimes occurred in December 2018.
Croft had been the team’s starting signal caller through the early portion of camp.
Tennessee State released the following statement in regards to the matter:
“The University is aware that a student athlete was arrested in a criminal matter. Due to federal and state student privacy laws, no further comment can be made at this time. However, the University takes seriously any allegation of sexual misconduct that may affect our campus community.”
Croft was booked and released from jail Monday.
