The Tennessee State University women’s basketball team fell in a heartbreaker, 72-69, to Austin Peay on Saturday afternoon at the Gentry Center.
Dominique Claytor led the Lady Tigers with 18 points in 35 minutes. Three other Lady Tigers finished in double figures — Gia Adams (13), Sierra McCullough and Tatyana Davis each had 10 points.
TSU forced 31 turnovers, its second most of the season. The Lady Tigers forced 33 turnovers on opening night vs. Fisk.
Austin Peay held a small lead at the half, 37-33, but the Lady Tigers bounced back in the fourth quarter and held a small lead. It was a 10-0 run by TSU midway through the final frame that gave them a 64-60 lead. However, Austin eay responded with a responded with a 8-0 run and led 68-64 with 33 seconds left.
The final 30 seconds saw Adams nail a three-pointer form the top of the key but Karle Pace hit free throws down the stretch to solidify the win for the visitors.
Pace paced all scorers with 23 points. D’Shara Booker had 15 points and Ella Sawyer had 10 points.
TSU will hit the road for the next two games at SIUE on Thursday evening and then at Eastern Illinois on Saturday before a make-up contest with Morehead State to end the month of January on the 31st.
