MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Golden Tigers extended their winning streak to five games with a 49-34 win over Central State at the Cramton Bowl on Saturday in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action.
Tuskegee (5-2, 4-0 SIAC) again scored first in the contest, scoring on their second drive of the game with a 12-yard rush from Donte Edwards (Mobile, Ala.). The score capped off a ten-play, 66-yard drive that took up over four minutes of play and gave the Golden Tigers the 7-0 lead.
Central State responded on the next drive however, going on a nine-play, 75-yard drive of their own to tie the ball game at 7-7 after a short passing touchdown.
The Golden Tigers got back on the board in the second quarter with a three-yard rush from Bryson Williams (Lithonia, Ga.), his fourth score on the ground in the last two weeks. Tuskegee maintained the one-score lead until nearly the end of the half, as they drove 92 yards and scored on a goal line run from Taurean Taylor (Stockdale, Ga.) to go into the break leading 21-7.
After another score from Tuskegee with just over ten minutes to play in the third, Central State flipped the momentum to get back into the ball game, first with a two-play scoring drive to close the gap 28-14. After forcing a punt from Ryan Duff(Mobile, Ala.), the Marauders drove down the field for another score, this time on a six-play 89-yard drive to pull within one score.
Central State drove for the final time in the quarter with just under six minutes to play in the quarter, scoring their third touchdown of the third on another drive that lasted less than two minutes, however missed the extra point to leave the score at 28-27.
Tuskegee started their next drive with at their own 22-yard line and initially went three-and-out, however Central State muffed a punt that was recovered by the Golden Tigers, essentially flipping the field. Five plays later, Taylor punched it in from ten yards out for his second of a career-high four touchdowns.
After a score from the Marauders early in the final quarter, Tuskegee pulled away late with two more scores from Taylor, one from 29-yards out, followed by a season-long 93-yard rush to seal the game.
A pair of Central State quarterbacks combined for 501 passing yards on the day, with Brandon Kyles finishing 17-for-28 for 352 yards, while Kendall Boney was. 14-for-22 for 149 yards. Meanwhile, a trio of receivers went over 100 yards on the day.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Golden Tigers rushed for a season-high 439 yards against the Marauders, with Taylor finishing with 232, his second game north of 200 yards on the ground. Meanwhile, Edwards accounted followed by 142 yards on the day, followed by 60 from Williams. The trio combined for all seven touchdowns for Tuskegee.
- Williams also went 14-for-26 for 106 yards through the air against Central State, with five different receivers catching passes on the day, led by Rodricus Magee (Jackson, Miss.) at five catches for 38 yards and Corey Petty (Warner Robins, Ga.) with four receptions for 27 yards. Antonio Meeks(Lilburn, Ga.) and Jonathan Montrevil(Miami, Fla.), both caught two passes, while Taylor caught one for 21 yards in the win.
- Jeremy Dees (Evergreen, Ala.) and Fletcher Jordan (, Ga.) led the defensive unit, with Dees earning eight solo tackles, while Jordan had four assisted and four solos along with a forced fumble. Woodly Appolon(Montreal, Canada) accounted for seven stops, while Zelly Aldridge (Gallion, Ala.) made six solo tackles, forced a fumble, and recorded an interception.

The Golden Tigers will travel to Memphis next weekend as they take on Lane College in the Bluff City Classic. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Whitehaven Stadium.
