The Virginia State University football (8-1, ^-1 CIAA) team dominated in all three aspects of the game as they beat down Lincoln University Lions (3-5, 2-4 CIAA) 75-25 on senior day inside Rogers Stadium.
On VSU first drive of the game they marched down the field on a nine play 59-yard drive that ended with an 11-yard touchdown run for Jordan Davis. The defense would then force a punt from the Lions and five plays later Davis would find Kimo Clarke for a 20-yard touchdown catch but the PAT would sail left to make it 13-0 early.
VSU final drive of the first quarter would feature a lot of Clarke running the ball as he would drive them down the field before he finally drove it in from the two-yard line for the Trojans to go up 20-0 in the first quarter. The Lions would finally score to start the second quarter to try and regain some momentum. However, it took two plays for Davis to find Roy Jackson III for a 69-yard catch and run for the fourth touchdown on four drives.
On the fifth drive VSU scored yet another touchdown as they marched down the field and Davis would connect on his third touchdown pass off the first half as he found Malik Hunter for a 31-yard touchdown pass. Then special teams would make their presence felt with a block punt by Donovan Haskins and recovered in the endzone by Rodney Jones to hang 40 points up in the first half.
Davis then would score his fourth and final touchdown as he completed a pass to Tayshaun Porter for a 14-yard pass that capped off a seven-play drive. The third quarter Meziah Scott got the call, and he called his own number on a 22-yard touchdown run. Jackson III would then set up the offense on the four-yard line after a 66-yard punt return and it only took two rushes for Kemerai Eberhardt to find the endzone making it 61-13 in favor of the good guys.
To start the fourth quarter Scott scored another touchdown this time from 10-yards out, then to close out the game with 7:39 remaining VSU would run out the clock and finish the scoring with Arthur Sutton scoring the final touchdown with a four-yard touchdown run.
11 different players would register a carry for the Trojans totaling 286 rushing yards. While eight different receivers would catch a pass for 300 passing yards on the day. VSU now will travel to Richmond to take on the panthers of Virginia Union with a trip to the CIAA Championship on the line next Saturday November 4 at 1:00 p.m.
