Richmond, VA- Virginia Union University’s football team has moved up to being ranked second in the nation in Dr. Henry Cavil’s HBCU Mid-Major Division Football Poll, released on Wednesday, October 10.
Langston University is ranked #1 with a 5-1 record while VUU is second with an identical 5-1 record.
Benedict, Morehouse, Fayetteville State, Bowie State, Tuskegee, Albany State, Edward Waters and Virginia State round out the Top 10.
Virginia Union is 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the CIAA. The Panthers are coming off a 48-38 victory over Chowan University.
The poll ranking is the original HBCU sports poll that separates the rankings (since 2002) of NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, and NAIA member HBCU institutions into two distinct categorical polls: Major and Mid-Major (This format is unlike the historic SBN Poll). The Major Division Poll, consist of NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) [formerly I-AA] programs and the Mid-Major Division Poll, which consist of NCAA Division II, NCAA, and Unaffiliated programs.
Virginia Union faces Bowie Stae University at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 20, at Hovey Field in Richmond, Va.
