Bre’elle Hawkins (Lane) was named Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week, while Jayla Neely (Allen) earned Defensive Player of the Week, released by the league office on Tuesday.
Kayla Chambliss (Allen)was also tabbed Setter of the Week alongside Fatima Ramirez (Edward Waters) who earned Newcomer of the Week.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Bre’elle Hawkins, Lane| Outside Hitter | Senior | Riverview, FL
Hawkins led the Dragons to a 4-0 week including two SIAC wins over Benedict and Allen. The senior had 63 points with 52 kills and 10 aces. Hawkins currently leads the SIAC in aces and is ranked third nationally.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Jayla Neely, Allen| Libero/Defensive Specialist | Freshman |Rock Hill, S.C.
Neely led the Jackets on the defensive end tallying 38 digs in three matches played averaging almost 13 digs per match. She also added six aces and a kill.
SETTER OF THE WEEK – Kayla Chambliss, Allen| Setter | Junior | Tallahassee, FL
Chambliss led the Jackets at setter as she totaled 77 assists on the week along with 17 kills and 11 aces to lead Allen to a 3-1 record last week with wins over Livingstone, Morris, and LeMoyne-Owen.
NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK – Fatima Ramirez, Edward Waters| Outside Hitter | Sophomore | Belmopan, Belize
Ramirez helped lead Edward Waters to 2-1 week with wins over Fort Valley State and Tuskegee. On the week, Ramirez collected 39 kills, 30 digs, four service aces, and four blocks. Against Fort Valley State, the sophomore outside hitter collected nine kills while against Tuskegee she added a double-double with 13 kills and 12 digs. Her best performance came against Spring Hill with 17 kills, nine digs, two blocks, and one service ace.
