In this latest edition of represhinsible things announcers say, we have the case of Washington Wizards broadcaster who chucked the proverbial turd in the punch bowl of Porter Jr’s game-winning shot that beat the Wiz.
Consor said:
“You’ve got to give credit. Kevin Porter Jr., like his dad, pulled that trigger right at the right time,”
The distasteful comments are in reference to the life of Porter’s father, Kevin Porter, Sr., who served four and a half years after pleading guilty to first-degree manslaughter in the 1993 shooting death of a 14-year-old girl. The elder Porter lost his life in 2004 when he tried to intervene on the behalf of someone being jumped on and was shot.
Thursday morning Consor took to Twitter to issue an apology :
“Please allow me to take this opportunity to sincerely apologize to Kevin Porter Jr., his family, and the Rockets organization for the comments I made during last night’s game,” Consor posted on Twitter. “I mistakenly thought that Kevin was the son of former Washington player Kevin Porter and was unaware that the words I chose to describe his game-winning shot would be in any way hurtful or insensitive. I have reached out to Kevin to personally apologize and hope to be able to talk with him soon.”
As of the writing of this article there has been no works from the Wizards on what, if any, discpilary actions Consor could face. AQ
