Yesterday the New Orleans Pelicans announced that rookie sensation Zion Williamson would not play in the team’s preseason finale today against the New York Knicks due knee soreness.
It it believed to not be serious but according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Pelicans are erring on the side of caution and Williamson will miss the first few weeks of the season.
While he is expected to make a full recovery, there is slight case for concern. This will mark the second time that a knee issue of some sort will cause the no.1 pick to miss some time. He only played eight minutes in the summer league after suffering a bone bruise in his left knee. With these issues already arising before the season starts , this will be something the Pelicans will monitor with the highest degree of scrutiny and will not bring him back until he is full recovered
. There is a concern that these knee issues could be weight-related. While Zion is not fat, he is over 260 pounds at 6-7 and that type of weight on even his stout frame, could be the root of some of these issues.
