The ongoing saga of where Deandre Ayton will suit up for has a new chapter.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the restricted free agent big man has agreed to a 4-year, $133 million offer sheet with the Indiana Pacers.
The relationship between Phoenix and Ayton began to go awry prior to the start of the 2021-22 season, he sought a maximum contract extension in the realm of 5-years and 172 million before the October 18 deadline. The difference in the evaluation of his value by the Suns and Ayton himself led to an impasse that became further exacerbated when other players in his 2018 draft class got sizable extensions. Rather than take the $16.4 million qualifying offer left on his deal, and entering unrestricted free agent, he decided to test the restricted free agent waters.
Phoenix has 48 hours to match the offer or Ayton officially becomes a Pacer.
