Full-time LeBron James nemesis Dillon Brooks has never been shy about sharing his opinion on the NBA legend. Now, the Phoenix Suns forward is taking another shot at LeBron’s decision to join the Philadelphia 76ers.
With LeBron entering what could be the final chapter of his career, Brooks believes the four-time champion is doing everything possible to add another title to his résumé.
“I think he’s doing everything he can to get a last little ring,” Brooks said.
The comment adds to the debate over what LeBron’s move means for his legacy. Entering his 24th NBA season at age 41, LeBron is no longer being judged only on longevity. Another championship would give him a fifth title and provide his legions of sycophants with additional fuel for their case to crown their king as the NBA GOAT.
Critics, however, may question whether winning with another championship-caliber roster should carry the same weight as his previous titles. LeBron has already won championships with Miami, Cleveland and Los Angeles, while his history of joining superstar-laden teams( many times that he has had a heavy hand in orchestrating in their construction) has remained a central part of discussions about his place in NBA history.
Philadelphia gives him one more opportunity to compete for a title in the Eastern Conference—and potentially reshape how his latest career move is viewed.
If Philadelphia wins the Larry O’Brien Trophy, LeBron’s decision could look very different in hindsight. Until then, Brooks’ comments raise a familiar question: Is LeBron’s final act in Philadelphia all about chasing one final championship or trying to strengthen his case as the greatest basketball player ever?
