Making A Difference: Michael Jordan Helps Morehouse College Open New Multimedia Center for Future Storytellers

Michael Jordan is putting more than basketball knowledge into the next generation of HBCU talent.

Morehouse College has officially opened its new Morehouse Multimedia Center, a state-of-the-art facility designed to prepare students for careers in journalism, sports media, broadcasting, podcasting, filmmaking and digital storytelling.

The center held its grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sept. 23, with support from Michael Jordan and Jordan Brand.

The new facility is part of Morehouse’s Department of Journalism in Sports, Culture and Social Justice.

It gives students access to professional production equipment, a modular studio and editing bays while providing hands-on opportunities to create:

  • Sports broadcasts
  • Podcasts
  • Films
  • Digital stories
  • Multimedia projects
  • Emerging-media productions

The goal is to give students practical experience alongside their classroom education.

Morehouse says the facility includes approximately $250,000 worth of equipment.

And the investment goes back several years.

In 2021, Jordan and Jordan Brand committed more than $1 million toward scholarships and academic programming for Morehouse students studying journalism and sports-related fields. Morehouse subsequently launched its journalism major in 2022.

📦 WHAT WE KNOW

WHERE: Morehouse College, Atlanta
OPENED: Sept. 23, 2026
BACKED BY: Michael Jordan & Jordan Brand
FOCUS: Journalism, sports broadcasting, podcasting, filmmaking and digital storytelling
EQUIPMENT: Approximately $250,000 in professional-grade gear
PREVIOUS INVESTMENT: More than $1 million committed in 2021 to journalism and sports-related scholarships and programming

Morehouse also reports that nearly 120 journalism-program alumni currently work in media and sports, while more than 60 graduates have earned advanced degrees in the field.

🎙️ More Than a Building

The center is already being used to create content.

According to Morehouse, content produced using equipment purchased for the center generated more than 1 million social-media views in August 2026. Training through the program also contributed to an interview that received a student Emmy Award for The Maroon Tiger.

The facility also supports programs including the Maroon Tiger Sports Network, Broadcast Production Program and Campus Content Creators initiative.

For an HBCU journalism student who wants to become the next sports reporter, broadcaster, filmmaker, podcaster or digital creator, the idea is straightforward:

Don’t just study the media industry. Build for it.

And that’s exactly what Morehouse is giving its students the opportunity to do.

🐐 MJ’S HBCU IMPACT

Michael Jordan’s connection to Morehouse now extends beyond a financial contribution.

His support helped create infrastructure where students can develop the actual skills required to tell stories across today’s media landscape.

For an institution producing future journalists and sports-media professionals, that could mean cameras, microphones and editing bays becoming just as important to a student’s development as a textbook.

The next generation of storytellers now has a new home at Morehouse.
