A pair of Tigers garner weekly Big South-OVC honors

The Big South-OVC announces their weekly football honorees and two Tennessee State players were among the players selected. 

Special Teams Player of the Week | CJ Evans | WR/KR | R-Sr | Mobile, AL

After a Howard touchdown trimmed the Tennessee State lead to 20-14, the momentum of the game was up in the air. On the ensuing kickoff, Evans returned it for a 99-yard touchdown that put the Tigers firmly in charge of the game, as it returned the proceeding to a two-score TSU lead at 27-14. In addition to the game-deciding kickoff return, Evans also had 21 punt return yards, 20 rushing yards, and 19 receiving yards.

Co-Freshman of the Week | Sanders Ellis | Linebacker | Freshman | Nashville, TN

In TSU’s 24-17 win over Howard on Saturday Ellis recorded tackles(5 solo, 2 assisted), 1 tackles for loss (11 yards), and 0.5 sacks. The Nashville, TN native and true freshman is ranked 20th in the county, amongst freshmen in tackles for losses, and leads all freshmen with 1.25 TFLs per game.
