Andy Williams, best known to professional wrestling fans as “The Butcher” during his time with All Elite Wrestling (AEW), has died at the age of 48.
According to TMZ, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that Williams died following a medical emergency during an independent wrestling event in Pennsylvania.
Williams collapsed Saturday night during an Enjoy Wrestling event at Mr. Smalls Theatre in Millvale, Pennsylvania. He was competing alongside his longtime tag-team partner, The Blade, when the medical emergency occurred.
According to reports, Williams’ legs buckled near the conclusion of the match before he collapsed. The Blade immediately called for medical assistance, while medical personnel rushed to the ring.
Enjoy Wrestling confirmed that its medical staff immediately began administering CPR before an ambulance arrived. Williams was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital, and the remainder of the event was canceled.
The medical examiner’s confirmation came after reports initially emerged that Williams had suffered a serious medical emergency and was hospitalized.
The Butcher’s Wrestling Career
Williams became widely known in professional wrestling as The Butcher, teaming with The Blade in AEW. The duo became a recognizable part of AEW’s tag-team division after Williams made his AEW debut in 2019.
Williams and The Blade also competed extensively on the independent wrestling scene.
Beyond wrestling, Williams was an accomplished musician. He was a founding member and guitarist for the influential metalcore band Every Time I Die, giving him a following that extended well beyond professional wrestling.
Williams remained active in both music and wrestling in recent years.
A Sudden and Tragic Loss
The circumstances surrounding Williams’ death remain under investigation. An autopsy is expected to help determine the official cause of death.
Williams was just 48 years old.
His death represents a tremendous loss for both the professional wrestling and heavy music communities, where he built a unique legacy across two very different worlds.
