Albany State hoops sweeps Spring Hill

The Golden Rams men and women defeated the Spring Hill College Badgers on Saturday to earn their first SIAC victory of the season.  In the women’s game, the Golden Rams defeated the Badgers (74-57).  With the win, the Golden Rams improved to (3-2) overall and (1-0) in the SIAC.  The Badgers fell to (1-5) overall and (0-1) in the conference.
 
The Golden Rams outscored the Badgers (23-15) in the 1st quarter.  In the 2nd quarter, the Badgers responded by outscoring the Golden Rams (21-14).  The Golden Rams led (37-36) at the half.
 
In the 3rd quarter, both teams scored 15 points.  The Golden Rams led (52-51) to start the 4th quarter.  `The Golden Rams used a stifling defense in the 4th quarter that limited the Badgers to 6 total points in route to a 17 point victory on the road.
 
The Golden Rams were 27-71 from the field in the game.  The Golden Rams were 5-18 from the 3-point line.  From the free throw line, the Golden Rams were 15-23 in the game.  The Golden Rams finished with 30 points off the bench.
 
Chelsea Hill led the Golden Rams with 15 points in only 17 minutes.  Hill was 6-7 from the field and 3-3 from the 3-point line.  Juanisha Black finished with 12 points and 9 rebounds for the Golden Rams.  Eleven players scored for the Golden Rams.
 
In the men’s game, Reggie James broke a (70-70) tie when he made a lay-up as time expired to give the Golden Rams their first victory of the season.  The win snapped a 5-game losing streak.  With the win, the Golden Rams improve to (1-5) overall and (1-0) in the SIAC.  The Badgers fell to (2-3) overall and (0-1) in the conference.
 
At the half, the Golden Rams trailed the Badgers (39-34).  In the 1st half, the Golden Rams were 12-30 from the field.  The Golden Rams shot 5-17 from the 3-point line.  From the free throw line, the Golden Rams shot 5-6.  The Golden Rams largest lead was 10 in the 1st half.
 
The Golden Rams outscored the Badgers in the 2nd half (38-31) to secure the (72-70) win.  The Golden Rams had 3 players to score in double figures.  Maurice Dickson finished with 18 points.  Dickson connected on 2-5 three point attempts.  Terin Wofford finished with 17 points 3 steals and 6 rebounds.  Jamir Moore added 12 points and 5 rebounds.
 
For the game, the Golden Rams shot 47.3% from the field.  The Golden Rams connected on 8-24 of their 3-point attempts.  The Golden Rams also made 75% of their free throw attempts.
 
The Golden Rams will play Tuskegee University in Alabama on Monday, November 28.
