Albany State Softball takes Eastern Division crown

The Golden Rams softball team won two out of three games against the Benedict College Tigers in their final series of the regular season.  As a result, the Golden Rams finish #1 in the Eastern Division of the SIAC.  The Golden Rams improved to 32-7 (16-3 in the SIAC) while the Tigers are 27-17 (11-7 in the SIAC).  
 
In game 1, the Tigers defeated the Golden Rams 12-4.  The Tigers jumped out to a (3-0) lead after the 1st inning.  But, McLeod homered in the 3rd inning to cut the lead to (3-2). 
 
Hollis homered to left field to score 2 runs in the 4th inning to cut the Tigers lead to (5-4).  But, the Tigers scored 5 runs in the 6th inning to secure the victory.
 
The Golden Rams finished the game with 4 run, 5 hits and 2 errors.  The Tigers scored 12 runs on 13 hits.  Olivia Townsend got the win for the Tigers.  Townsend improved to (8-2) on the season.  The Golden Rams starting pitcher, Mackenzie Chamblee, fell to (8-4) on the season.
 
In game 2, the Golden Rams bounced back to win 6-2.  The Golden Rams scored 2 runs in the 1st inning when Brown homered to center field.
 
The Golden Rams added another run in the 4thinning when McFarland doubled to right field to score Hollis.
 
The Golden Rams increased the lead to (6-0) when Pettus hit a 2-run homer to left field in the top of the 6th inning.  The Tigers added 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning.  But, it wasn’t enough to overcome the Golden Rams.
 
The Golden Rams finished with 6 runs, 11 hits and 1 error while the Tigers finished with 2 runs, 7 hits and 2 errors.  Trista Murphy improved to (7-1) for the Golden Rams.  Savanna Marshall fell to (3-2) for the Tigers.
 
In the final game of the series, the Golden Rams won 16-7.  The Golden Rams outscored the Tigers 13-3 in the final 3 innings to secure the victory.
 
Pettus homered to left field in the 6th inning to score the final 3 runs for the Golden Rams.  Pettus finished with 4 RBIs for the Golden Rams.
 
Morgan Brown led the Golden Rams with 4 hits.  Ciweya Tennison finished with 3 hits.  Keyatta Ayers and Romona McLeod contributed with 2 hits each. 
 
Romona McLeod improved to (5-1) for the Golden Rams.  Olivia Townsend fell to (8-3) for the Tigers.
 
The 2022 SIAC Softball Tournament will begin on Thursday, May 5.  The tournament will be held in Albany, Georgia.
