Albany State splits Friday double dip with Edward Waters

The Albany State baseball team split a Friday doubleheader to take two out of three games in their season-ending series against the Tigers of Edward Waters.

In Game 2 it was the Tigers who got on the board first off the bat of third baseman Adrian Laro, whose two-run double in the bottom of the first plated Daquarius Thompkins and Dalton Pass. Albany State answered in the top of the second inning, scoring their first run of the day and inning when Hill Corley flied out to center field that brought home Nicholas Hernandez. Later in the inning T.J. Thomas drew a bases-loaded walk that forced home Nathan Lloyd to tie the score at two apiece. Lavoisier Fisher cleared the bases when he crushed a grand slam that put the Golden Rams out in front 6-2. In the bottom half of the inning EWC scored three runs of their own; a Kellen Washington single drove in Octavis Clayton and Dalton Pass’ double plated Washington and John Nobles to draw the Tigers wthin one at 6-5.

That changed in the top of the very next inning when Corley’s second sac-fly oof the day brought home Lloyd to make the score 7-5. In top of the fourth the Golden Rams added two more runs, a Ross sacrifice fly that scored Thomas and RBI single from Hernandez, to extend the Albany State lead to 9-5. Waters answered right back with a run of their own in the bottom of the frame and one in the fifth to make the score 9-7.

Hernandez’s second hit of the game, a solo homer in the seventh, put Albany State up 10-7.

Luis Hernandez groundout in the bottom of the inning pulled the Togers back within two at 10-8.

In the eighth inning, Fisher smacked two two-run bomb to give the Golden Rams a 12-8 lead. In the bottom of the frame, Edward Waters could muster but one run, coming on a sac fly from Pass to bing the score to is final mark at 12-9.


Game 2

In the final game of the series, the Tigers defeated the Golden Rams (11-9).
 
With the Golden Rams leading (9-6), the Tigers exploded for 5 runs in the bottom of the inning.  Garcia doubled to score Shubert to make it (9-7). Washington singled to score Garcia to make it (9-8).  Nobles scored on a passed ball to tie the score at (9-9).  Washington scored an unearned run to make it (9-10) and Washington doubled to score Pass to make it (9-11).
 
Tyler McConnell (0-2) was the losing pitcher for the Golden Rams while Adams improved to (1-1) for the Tigers.
