Albany State volleyball gets sweep against Fort Valley

The Albany State Golden Rams defeated arch-rival Fort Valley State Wildcats (3-0) this evening at The Jones Brothers Health, Physical Education and Recreation Complex on the ASU East Campus.  With the win, the Golden Rams improved to (11-6) overall and (11-2) in the SIAC.  The Wildcats fell to (3-15) overall and (1-5) in the conference.
 
The Golden Rams swept the season series against the Wildcats.  In their season opener, the Golden Rams defeated the Wildcats (3-0) in Fort Valley, Georgia on Thursday, September 1.
 
The Golden Rams and Wildcats battled in set 1.  Midway through the match, the Golden Rams held a slight (13-11) lead.  After the Golden Rams extended the lead to (16-11), the Wildcats called a timeout to regroup.  The Wildcats called another timeout with the score (24-18).  The Golden Rams scored the next point and won the set (25-18).
 
In set 2, the Golden Rams jumped out to an early (5-1) lead over the Wildcats.  With the Golden Rams leading (13-8), the Wildcats called a timeout.  After the timeout, the Golden Rams extended the lead to (19-14).  Mary Kate Preston’s kill ended the set as the Golden Rams won (25-19).
 
The Wildcats started set 3 strong as they jumped out to an early (4-1) lead.  The Wildcats increased their lead to (10-5).  The Golden Rams battled back to tie the score at (12-12).  The Golden Rams continued their run and stretched the lead to (20-15).  The Golden Rams won set 3 (25-17) on a kill by Mary Kate Preston.
 
Jenae Thomas led the Golden Rams with 8 kills.  Hailey Elyicio led with 4 aces.  Khamari Trotter paced the Golden Rams with 8 blocks.  Chelsea Doswell finished with 17 assists and Sydney Melton led with 10 digs for the Golden Rams.
