Albany State women’s hoops falls 61-52 to West Georgia

The Golden Rams were defeated (61-52) by the University of West Alabama Tigers on day 2 of the 2023 SIAC/ GSC Challenge in Carrolton, Georgia.  With the loss, the Golden Rams fall to (0-2) to start the season.  The Tigers earned their first win of the season and improve to (1-1) overall.
 
The Golden Rams led (18-13) after the 1st quarter.  But, a dismal 2nd quarter allowed the Tigers to take the lead (25-24) at the half.  The Golden Rams were outscored (18-11) in the 3rd quarter and trailed the Tigers (43-35) entering the 4thquarter.  Late in the 4th quarter, the Golden Rams cut the Tigers lead to 2 points, but it wasn’t enough to escape Carrolton with a victory against the Gulf South Conference opponent.
 
The Golden Rams finished the game shooting 32.8% from the field, 26.1% from the 3-point line and 54.5% from the free throw line.
 
Keyra Peterson led the Golden Rams with 20 points and 5 rebounds.  Elisa Saffold finished with 12 points and 6 rebounds.  Chelsea Hill and Yasmine Fairchild both contributed with 8 points each.
 
The Tigers shot 36.8% from the field, 26.3% from the 3-point line and 73.7% from the free throw line.
 
The Tigers had 3 players in double figures.  Julia Rodriguez led the trio with 15 points and 8 rebounds.  Shayla Golden finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Tigers.  Sydney Schwallie contributed with 10 points.
 
The Golden Rams will be back in action against the Columbus State Cougars at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, November 15, in Columbus, Georgia.
