Albany State women’s hoops look to keep winning streak alive

The Albany State women’s basketball team will look to keep their winning ways going when they play host to Columbus State Saturday.

After dropping their season opener 63-52 to Elizabeth City State, the Rams have won two straight, defeating Johnson C, Smith 74-71 and a surprising 68-60 win over Tuskegee. Senior Kashay Hankerson leads the team in scoring with 15.0 ppg. Juanisha Black is the squad’s other double figure scorer, putting up 13.3 points per game.

Their Peach Belt Conference opponent, Columbus State, enters the matchup sporting an identical 2-1 record. Like Albany State, the Cougars also dropped their season opener to a CIAA opponent , for them it was Chowan, and have followed up that defeat with back-to-back wins – an 81-55 blowout of Newberry College and an 88-76 victory over the University of Montevallo.

The cougars are led in scoring by sophomore point guard Emila Tenbrock who puts in 14.3 ppg. Other double figure scorers includes guard Olanna Rawls who also averages 7.3 rebounds to go along 11.0 points and point guard Amber Abusbeih’s 10.7 points per contest.

In the last matchup between the two teams, November 17, 2021, Columbus State boat raced the Golden Rams 99-43.
