Albany State women’s hoops shocks Tuskegee, 68-60

In front of a raucous crowd at the Jones Brothers Health, Physical Education & Recreation Complex, the Albany State Golden Rams women’s basketball team stunned the preseason #1 Tuskegee Golden Tigers from the SIAC West Division (68-60).  With the win, the Golden Rams improved to (2-1) overall while the Tuskegee Golden Tigers fell to (2-1).  Both teams remain (0-0) in the SIAC because the game was not considered a conference contest.
 
The game remained close from the opening tip to the final horn.  At the end of the 1stperiod, the score was tied (20-20).  The Golden Rams outscored the Tigers (11-8) in the 2nd quarter and led (31-28) at the half.
 
The Golden Tigers responded in the 3rd quarter by outscoring the Golden Rams (21-18) to even the score at 49 to end the quarter.
 
The Golden Rams went on a (12-8) run to start the 4th quarter to establish a 4-point lead with 1:24 remaining in the game.  After a few missed shots and costly turnovers by the Golden Tigers, the Golden Rams were able to escape with a (68-60) win.
 
Juanisha Black led the Golden Rams with 17 points and 8 rebounds.  Kashay Hankerson finished with 14 points and 5 assists.  Unique Miller added 11 points and 7 rebounds for the Golden Rams.
 
Ashaila Jackson finished with 18 points and 6 rebounds for the Golden Tigers.  Nadia Thorman-McKey finished with 18 points and 6 rebounds.
 
The Golden Rams will return to action when they host Columbus State at 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 19.
