Albany State women’s hoops squeaks by Johnson C. Smith 74-71 for first win of the season

The Albany State Golden Rams women’s basketball team earned their first win of the season after defeating the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls (74-71) in the 2022 SIAC/ CIAA Basketball Challenge Saturday, on November 12, in North Carolina. 
 
The Golden Rams rallied for the win after being down by 15 points at the 6:13 mark in the 3rd quarter.  With the win, the Golden Rams improved to (1-1) on the season while the Golden Bulls fell to (0-2).   
 
Kashay Hankerson led the Golden Rams with 20 points, 3 assists and 4 steals.  Juanisha Black recorded her 2nd double-double of the weekend as she finished with 10 points and 13 rebounds for the Golden Rams.  Unique Miller added 10 points and 5 rebounds.
 
The Golden Rams finished with 42 points in the paint.  One of the strengths of the Golden Rams continues to be their bench as they combined for 29 points against the Golden Bulls.
 
The Golden Rams shot 29/55 (52.7%) from the field in the game.  The Golden Rams connected on 6/14 (42.8%) from the 3-point line.  The Golden Rams also made 10/21 (47.6%) attempts from the free throw line in the game.
 
The Golden Bulls had 4 players in double figures.  Tyliah Burns led the Golden Bulls with 17 points and 4 steals.  Shaniya Jones added 15 points and 3 steals.  India Howard added 13 points and 14 rebounds.  Jill Harris contributed with 11 points and 3 assists.
