Marketing done right is an amazing tool that when wielded correctly. It can create lore that can shape buying habits for years to come. Such is the case with the Air Ship and the Air Jordan I, whose histories are forever intertwined.
Though this story has been sussed out for several years, the Air Jordan I was never banned by the NBA; that shoe that actually was outlawed was the Air Ship. However a clever marketing campaign has not only netted Nike and Jordan Brand billions of dollars in the interim since that genius piece of marketing so well-excuted that even today many people still think the AJI was banned. The brand continues to perpetuate by calling the black/red colorway “banned.”
Such is the case with this upcoming Air Ship. It makes use of the iconic black and red color palette. It sports a black leather upper overlaid with red leather at the eyebrows, collar and on the lateral and medial Swooshes. Red also shows on on the “NIKE AIR” tongue branding , while “AIR JORDAN” on the heel completes the look of the upper.
The aforementioned upper sits atop a white midsole and a red tipped white rubber outsole.
This Air Ship is releasing August 7 exclusively at Italian boutique Back-Door, with a potential subsequent release on SNKRS.
