Jalen Brunson’s “What The Rick” Nike Kobe 5 PE Is Reportedly Releasing in 2027

Jalen Brunson’s personal connection to the Kobe line is getting another public release.

The Jalen Brunson x Nike Kobe 5 Protro “What The Rick” is reportedly set to release to the public in Summer 2027, turning one of Brunson’s most personal Player Exclusives into a sneaker that Kobe fans and collectors will have a chance to own. The shoe carries a reported $200 retail price and style code JA7364-800.

Brunson originally wore the colorful Kobe 5 during the Knicks’ 2025 playoff run. The sneaker is a tribute to his father, Rick Brunson, whose nine-season NBA career included stops with multiple franchises.

The design pulls colors from the teams Rick played for, including the Portland Trail Blazers, New York Knicks, Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls, Toronto Raptors, Los Angeles Clippers, Seattle SuperSonics and Houston Rockets.

Unlike many traditional “What The” Kobe releases that use mismatched left-and-right shoes, the “What The Rick” features a symmetrical design. Different panels of the Kobe 5 carry the colors associated with Rick’s NBA journey, giving the sneaker a personal story rather than simply a collection of random color combinations.

The reported official color description is Total Orange/Black-Hyper Cobalt, with additional colorful details throughout the upper.
