SWAC reveals updated formats for men’s and women’s basketball tournaments

From the Southwestern Athletic Conference : The Southwestern Athletic Conference has announced updated formats for the upcoming Cricket Wireless SWAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournaments. The quarterfinal round schedule of games initially slated to be held at the home facility of the respective higher seeded teams have been moved to Bartow Arena located in Downtown Birmingham. “Over the course of the past several weeks we’ve had extensive discussion with our membership related to the hosting of our upcoming SWAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournaments,” said SWAC Commissioner Dr. Charles McClelland.…

from the Southwestern Athletic Conference: MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Shmya Ward posted her fourth double-double this season, leading Alabama State to a 69-61 victory over Grambling State Wednesday afternoon at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome. Ward finished with a game-high 19 points and a team-high 10 rebounds for Alabama State (5-1, 5-1 SWAC), shooting 46.7 (7-for-15) percent from the floor and 71.4 (5-for-7) percent from the free throw line in the win. From the Southeastern Athletic Conference: BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Jackson State’s Ameshya Williams its SWAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for her outstanding performances during games played Jan. 2-4. Williams (Gulfport, Miss.) averaged a double-double tallying 19.5 points per game to go along with 20.5 rebounds per game.
