The Golden Rams will have travel laden slate this fall with seven games on the road, including neutral site contests in Phenix City, Alabama (White Water Classic) and Columbus, Georgia (Fountain City Classic). A tough season for Tennessee State came to a rough end with a 36-6 loss at the hands of the no.2 ranked Jacksonville State Gamecocks. It was a dominating performance for Tennessee State, as the Tigers handed Virginia University of Lynchburg a 60-0 beatdown. The Tiger offense got going early, scoring on a 5-play drive that covered 58 yards and took only 2:18. In his first start of the season, Albany State freshman quarterback Kelias Williams accounted for three touchdowns as the Golden Rams blew out Fort Valley State 34-9 in front of a crowd of 13,391 in the 28th Fountain City Classic. Despite the heroics of Patrick Smith, who caught a career-high three TD passes, Tennessee State came up short against previously winless Tennessee Tech 30-26 in Cookeville. The Albany State Golden Rams were ranked number 8 in the Division II Super Region Two playoff standings. As only the top seven in each of the four regions make the playoffs, the Rams could ill afford any missteps the rest of the season. The Albany State Golden Rams overcame a one point halftime deficit and then pulled away late in their 34-10 victory over the Morehouse College Maroon Tigers. Defense was the story of the first half for both ball clubs as the respective units for the Rams and Tigers gave up a combined 107 yards of total offense.
