Clarence McKinney’s contract will not be renewed at Texas Southern

When Texas Southern kicks off its 2024 football season they will have a new head coach on the sideline. The university announced it would not renew the contract of current coach Clarence McKinney, which is set to expire on December 15.

“Texas Southern University will not renew the contract of head football coach Clarence McKinney when it expires on Dec. 15, 2023,” said Dr. Granger. “We wish Coach McKinney well moving forward. The University will begin a nationwide search for our next head coach immediately.”

In his five seasons Coach McKinney recorded a 12-35 overall mark and 9-26 in SWAC play. This story was initially reported by HBCU Sports’s Kenn Rashad, November 14.
