eBay has acquired Sneaker Con, an authentication service that the company already had a relationship with dating back to October 2020, when eBay launched their own authentication arm.
“The response to our authentication offering has been overwhelming, and this acquisition allows us to continue to transform eBay and bring a higher level of trust and confidence to every transaction,”
Jordan Sweetnam, the SVP and general manager of eBay North America
Kicks that sell for over $100 on the platform will be sent to Sneaker Con for verification before being shipped to the buyer. According to eBay since they began their initiative to authenticate sneakers, 1.55 million pairs of shoes have been authenticated.
In addition to sneakers, eBay also extends it guarantee of authenticity to watches and handbags that are purchased on the platform. The process on these items are performed by an unnamed third party.
