Eleven tiger legends to be inducted in Grambling Sports HOF

GRAMBLING, La. | The Grambling Legends Sports Hall of Fame Committee announced its selection of 11 outstanding individuals to be inducted into the 14th Hall of Fame Class.  

The 2022 Hall of Fame induction banquet will be held on Saturday, July 9 at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center on the campus of Grambling State University. 

During the 2022 induction, a group of 11 noteworthy individuals will be added to the scroll of honor. Clemente Gordon, Andrew Jackson, Robert Taylor and Rodney Tureaud (football)l; Shiakiea Carter, Joseph Jones and Joseph Simpson (basketball); Dr. James Hammond and Juan Watkins (baseball); Yolande Small (track and field). Former director of the Grambling State University Marching Band, Conrad Hutchinson, Jr., will be inducted posthumously in the contributor category along with the Grambling State University Marching Band. 

Many nominees were considered for the 2022 class in the categories of student-athlete and contributor. Special recognition was also given to individuals and teams that had made significant contributions to college sports at Grambling State University, especially during the academic year of 2021-22. 

The 2022 Grambling Legends Sports Hall of Fame weekend festivities include a 4:30 p.m. press conference on Friday, July 8 at the Eddie G. Robinson Museum. A “meet and greet” with the area’s current and former inductees along with the general public begins at 5 p.m.in the Doris Robinson Hall of the museum. 

The Grambling Legends, Inc. created this event to give honor and recognition to former university student-athletes, administrators and associated contributors, as well as to support Grambling State University and the Eddie G. Robinson Museum. More than 150 outstanding individuals have been inducted into this prestigious group.  The hall of fame enshrinement dinner and induction proceeding will begin at 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 9, and includes a “Parade of Stars” in addition to captivating video tributes of each inductees.
