Georgetown announced earlier today that Patrick Ewing will be their new coach, filling the vacancy left when John Thomas III was fired on March 23.
Ewing had this to say in a statement released by the University:
My four years at Georgetown were the best of my life. Georgetown is my home and it is a great honor for me to return to my alma mater and serve as the next head coach. I have been preparing to be a head coach for many years and can’t wait to return to the Hilltop.
Ewing, played at Georgetown from 1982-85 under Big John Thompson, where he helped lead the program to three Final Fours and one national title. He then chased that with a 17-year ,Hall-of-Fame NBA career.
A press conference is scheduled for Wednesday at 11 a.m.
