No. 22 Florida Memorial University took care of business at home and won their eighth straight contest, this time over Southeastern by the score of 81-72 at the FMU Wellness Center. The win lifts the Lions to 7-2 in conference play as they remain tied for first place.
FMU forward and reigning SUN Conference and NAIA Men’s Basketball Defensive Player of the WeekLatavious Mitchell showed his prowess, scoring a game-high 20 points while grabbing 15 rebounds to go along with four assists. Fellow Lion forward Felix Uadiale finished with 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field, including a ferocious one handed slam drunk off of an offensive rebound in the second half that electrified the entire Wellness Center. He also added six boards and two blocks while teammates Terrin Hamilton and Mohamad Diallo added 13 and 11 points respectively.
As a team, FMU dominated down low, scoring 46 points in the paint compared to just 30 for their opponent. FMU also won the rebound battle 38-33.
The Lions return to the court on Monday, January 27as they host Fort Lauderdale in non-conference action. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. at the FMU Wellness Center.
