Senior outside hitter Essence Allen continues to dominate for Grambling State, delivering standout performances and earning her spot among the best in the All- Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) First Team.
Allen is ranked third in the SWAC with 338 kills (3.45 kills per set) and fourth in total points with 384.5 (3.92 points per set), she has been a consistent force on both offense and defense throughout the season.
This past week, Allen added another milestone to her impressive career. In a thrilling five-set match against Southern on November 11, she recorded her 1,000th career kill, a testament to her enduring impact. She led the Tigers with 22 kills on a .317 hitting percentage, while also contributing 19 digs and 23.5 points, spearheading Grambling State’s attack in a tightly contested matchup.
Allen continued her exceptional play in a straight-set sweep over Alcorn, where she tallied 15 kills on an outstanding .441 hitting percentage, added 14 digs, and contributed 18.5 points. Her all-around game was once again pivotal to the Tigers success.
Allen’s ability to perform at a high level on both ends of the court has been instrumental in Grambling State’s strong season. Her leadership and versatility have made her a cornerstone of the team as the Tigers continue their push for postseason success.
Grambling State will begin its postseason journey in the SWAC Volleyball Tournament on Friday, November 22. The Tigers, seeded No. 8, will face top-seeded Florida A&M in the opening match at 11:00 a.m at the Frederick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.
