Jackson State quarterback Jared Lockhart is putting together an impressive sophomore campaign, and the numbers now have him sitting atop the FCS in passing efficiency.
Through three games, Lockhart owns a 206.82 passing efficiency rating, according to Jackson State’s official statistics. He has completed 55 of 81 passes (67.9%) for 986 yards and nine touchdowns without throwing an interception.
That’s good for an average of 328.7 passing yards per game and 12.2 yards per attempt.
Lockhart’s latest performance came Saturday against Tuskegee, when he completed 21 of 30 passes for 376 yards and four touchdowns, helping Jackson State remain unbeaten at 3-0.
The sophomore quarterback has been remarkably efficient while also pushing the ball downfield. His season includes a 388-yard, four-touchdown performance against Edward Waters and a 222-yard, one-touchdown outing against Tennessee State.
The production represents another step forward for Lockhart, who was named the SWAC co-Freshman of the Year in 2025 after completing 76 of 113 passes for 1,187 yards, eight touchdowns and three interceptions in seven games.
Now, one year later, Lockhart has Jackson State’s offense operating at a different level.
The Tigers are averaging 44.3 points and 532.7 total yards per game, with 986 passing yards through their first three contests.
And with Lockhart protecting the football while producing explosive passing numbers, Jackson State enters the next stretch of the season with one of the nation’s most productive quarterbacks at the controls.
