The Los Angeles Lakers could have an opportunity to pursue one of the NBA’s premier big men this offseason.
According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, rival executives around the league expect the Sacramento Kings to make three-time All-Star Domantas Sabonis available in trade discussions as the franchise evaluates its future following a disappointing season.
For the Lakers, the possibility is intriguing.
Since acquiring Luka Dončić, Los Angeles has been searching for the right frontcourt partner to maximize the superstar guard’s playmaking abilities. Sabonis, one of the league’s most skilled passing centers and a perennial double-double machine, would seem to fit that mold perfectly.
The 6-foot-11 big man averaged another stellar campaign, showcasing the rebounding, interior scoring, and playmaking that have made him one of the NBA’s most unique offensive hubs. His ability to facilitate from the high post could create endless opportunities alongside Dončić, giving the Lakers one of the most dynamic offensive pairings in basketball.
However, turning speculation into reality would be far from simple.
Sabonis remains under contract and is arguably Sacramento’s most valuable asset. Any deal would likely require the Lakers to surrender significant draft capital, salary-matching contracts, and potentially young talent. With several teams expected to have interest should Sabonis officially become available, Los Angeles could face stiff competition.
Still, the mere possibility of pairing Dončić and Sabonis is enough to generate excitement throughout Lakers Nation.
